Workshop Three!

We all had great fun in the outpatients department at GOSH today! Lots of children joined in with the workshops and made their very own biomedical gloves for the Hands On project.
We love glove bugs!!!

Jenny (our wonderful volunteer) and I talked to lots of the children about their hands.
What do you use them for?
And what do you think they are made of?

We looked at bones, muscles, veins and nerve endings.
All the parts of our hands that are hidden by the skin.

Yikes! Some of the younger children thought the pictures were a little scary, but lots of the children wanted to have a go at drawing the muscles and bones onto their gloves.

Maybe they are not scary. Its just a different way to look at your hands: from the inside out.

We also looked at some pictures of the microorganisms (tiny little living things) that you pick up on your hands. These are so small that you can only see them with a microscope.
We thought this type of fungi looked
like a flower or a laser.
Molly thought that these looked like witches bones.
I couldn't comment, I've never seen witches bones before!

Some people thought that this looked like fire.

Harry said that this image reminded him of baked
beans and lots of us agreed!

I thought these microbes looked like bunches of grapes but Amy thought they
were like little space ships.

Everybody looked at the pictures and made a pair of gloves to remind them what kinds of things are on our hands and inside our hands. Here are some of the results....................

Hands Up Everybody!!
